Illustrations are a supporting element in the Anaplan visual identity. They are used sparingly and intentionally, only when they enhance clarity, support a key message, or simplify a complex idea that icons or text alone cannot convey.

Avoid using illustrations when:

  • Icons or product shots are more effective or appropriate.
  • They add visual noise without supporting comprehension.
  • Their inclusion feels decorative rather than purposeful.

Anaplan illustrations fall into two categories: simple and detailed. Both follow the same visual principles. The key difference is in the level of detail and intended use case.

Simple

Simple illustrations are minimal, clean, and built with limited elements to convey an idea quickly and clearly. Use simple illustrations when space is limited or when the message is straightforward and does not require complex visual storytelling.

Detailed

Detailed illustrations include more visual elements, layered components, and context. They maintain a simplistic style, but include more detail to better represent processes, product visuals, or abstract concepts. Use detailed illustrations when you have the space to support them and the content requires more of a visual explanation.

To maintain a consistent brand expression, illustrations should follow these core principles:

Simplicity

Illustrations should be clean and easy to understand at a glance.

Do

Use simple shapes and minimal detail.

Don't

Do not create illustrations that look isometric or three-dimensional.

Don't

Do not add actual text, data, or numbers — these should be low-fidelity and representative rather than exact.

Do

A subtle background or holding shape can be added to illustrations to anchor them but are not necessary.

Consistency

Illustrations should use a consistent design style that reflects Anaplan’s identity.

Do

Always include an outlined element in each illustration. The outline style needs to include consistent line weight, corner radius, and rounded endcaps on all illustrations.

Don't

Do not change the style of the illustrations. All illustrations should feel like they were created by one designer.

Do

When including an icon in an illustration, only use icons that are in our Anaplan style.

Do

The icons included in illustrations are the only exception to the icon color requirements and can be a color besides ink or white as long as it’s in our color palette. Make sure the color has enough contrast with the background color.

Don't

Do not add people or people elements, such as hands, to illustrations.

Color

Illustrations should use only the Anaplan color palette.

Do

Illustrations should be created with primarily ink, white, and tan with a gradient or light orange elements being added minimally and only when needed.

Don't

Do not use any colors or gradients that are not in our color palette.

Do

Only use the light orange (HEX #FFC099) to light purple (HEX #BDBDF6) gradient.

Don't

Do not alter the gradient or use any other colors to create a gradient even if they are in our color palette.

Do

The gradient should not be the primary focus of the illustration and instead be used sparingly in the background or to highlight key elements.
